Fashion & History

An Illustrated Archive of Style

The Masthead

About the Publication

“A dress, looked at closely enough, is a document of its century.”

Fashion History is an illustrated archive of style, founded in Delhi in the spring of MMXXVI. We are not a trade publication. We do not forecast. Our subject is the past, closely read, and the present only insofar as it is the past rehearsing itself.

Each issue assembles essays on designers, garments, and movements, drawn from museum collections, magazine archives, and the long memory of the block. Our contributors are historians, writers, and curators; our readers are anyone who has ever asked of a piece of clothing, “Where did this come from?” and wanted a real answer.

We publish once a month online, and collect each quarter into a printed volume. The typography is set in Playfair Display, Lora, Cinzel, and IBM Plex Mono. The palette is the cream and sepia of a magazine left too long in a sunlit drawer. That is the intended effect.
